The city of Madurai is located in the state of Tamil Nadu, serving as the administrative headquarters for the Madurai District. It ranks as the third largest city and the second largest municipal corporation in Tamil Nadu. Situated on the banks of the Vaigai River's mouth, Madurai has been a significant settlement for two thousand years, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities globally.
