Akrotiri, Santorini Greece

Akrotiri is a town on the island of Santorini, located about 15 km south of Fira, the island’s capital. With more than 3,600 years of history, it is best known for its remarkably well-preserved archaeological site, one of the most important from the Minoan civilization. Ancient Akrotiri was destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Thera (Santorini), which reshaped the island and contributed to the decline of Minoan culture. Modern Akrotiri has developed around the ruins of a 13th-century Venetian castle, preserving a unique blend of historical layers and scenic island character.
